After a short gap of 10 days in Delhi, I travelled to Madras (now Chennai) and reported to the manager of the Madras branch on 1 January 1955. I knew his name was Ian Mckersie, but was pleasantly surprised to perceive his overall casual appearance, dressed in a light yellow half-sleeved silk shirt with top three buttons open, loose-fitting trousers and sleek shoes. He looked somewhat like Frank Sinatra, almost as romantic.
