The Data Table Paradigm

The data table (much like a SAS data set, R dataframe, or pandas DataFrame in Python) is the main data repository in JMP. Data tables are like spreadsheets with rows and columns forming a rectangular array, but the similarity ends there. The rows are the observations, e.g., objects, people, firms, instances, time periods for which data are collected while the columns are the variables or measures on those objects. In a JMP data table, operations (equations or formulas) are done at the column level, unlike in a spreadsheet where the operations are done at the cell level and have to be copied from one cell to another.[4] You can therefore think of a JMP data table as being column-centric instead of cell-centric. ...
