Survey Data

Background

Survey data are stored in JMP data tables, usually in only one table, at least to start. Other tables may be created as subsets of the original data table as part of the analysis process, which allow you to refine your analysis. No matter the data table, there's usually one variable or column for a respondent ID that is unique to each survey respondent. I recommend that you always make this the first column. After that, the complexity of the questionnaire determines the content, order, and number of columns. There are several possibilities for answers and thus number of columns. You could have:
  • single response, string: one column per question; could be verbatim answers;
  • single response, numeric: one column ...
