PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF MATERIALS
  • Physical properties do not involve mechanical forces. Important physical properties of a material include specific heat, density, specific gravity, thermal conductivity, melting point and electrical conductivity.

Specific heat

  • The specific heat of a material is defined as the quantity of heat required to raise the temperature of a unit mass of the material through unity.
  • For a material of mass m with rise in temperature Δt due to heat supplied Q, the specific heat is given as
