Preventative Maintenance versus Available Production Time

This chapter addresses equipment considerations for the “Availability” component of the OEE metric. It includes both the mechanical performance of equipment and the accuracy of measurement devices that gather process data and then forward it to control systems. All such equipments are subject to nonstandard operation over time. Maintenance and calibration activities are required to restore standard operation. A comprehensive preventative maintenance plan results when those activities are planned in order to prevent unexpected equipment stoppage.
