Rotogravure Presses

This chapter portrays the basic configuration of a packaging (gravure) press, typically configured to print 8–12 colors. It discusses components such as ink viscosity control, electrostatic assist, and image monitoring that are critical for consistent and efficient operation. The discussion addresses older manual and mechanical methods as well as newer automatic techniques. The use and principles of operation for those components is covered. Recently developed components for newer press designs that increase productivity are discussed. The components can significantly reduce time and material waste. The ability of such designs to justify capital investment to replace presses representing older designs is presented.
