Extrusion Lamination and Coating

This chapter describes the ability of extrusion laminating to add a plastic layer between two webs directly from undifferentiated resin. Promoting adhesion of the extruded plastic layer to the two substrates can engage either or both the extruded plastic and substrates. Extrusion laminating and coating equipment must support the various process conditions for promoting adhesion. Modifying the laminated or coated substrate surfaces provides other means of increasing adhesion strength. Extrusion coating adds a plastic layer to one substrate where it can serve as a sealant layer of protective coating. Specialty resins can be incorporated into the extruded plastic to improve adhesion, barrier, and sealant performance. ...
