This book builds upon a handbook used to support a one-semester senior undergraduate or entry-level graduate course intended to involve students in the preliminary design of a manned spacecraft and associated launch vehicle. The course followed a one-semester design course for aerospace engineering students devoted to design of a commercial jet transport. Commercial aircraft design is a relatively mature field and sufficient reference material is available to provide a secure mooring for student research and study.
