Evaluating a technical writing candidate is similar in many ways to evaluating any other candidate. You need to evaluate the résumé, have an interview, and check references. With technical writers, you also need to evaluate writing samples. While the external process is largely the same, there are things you should be doing at each step that are unique for technical writers.
