Chapter 17. Agility

Chances are most software development managers have heard about agile methods. They have provocative names like Scrum, Lean Development (LD), Adaptive Software Development (ASD), and Extreme Programming (XP). Maybe you've heard just enough about one or more of these to make you worried. Or angry. There doesn't appear to be much middle ground. People either think agile methods are a crock, or the only way to go. Folks in charge of organizations, who have been shot by every “silver bullet” to come along, tend to think agile methods are a carnival sideshow at best, and poison at worst. Lots of software developers think agile methods are unprofessional.
