Staying the Course

Growing software demands that managers start projects differently, but that's only the first step. Once you get the money, and the project starts, things need to stay different for as long as the project lasts. That's where the proverbial rubber meets the road.

If your team is growing software, you have to run your project differently than you have before. Otherwise, you'll slip back into the manufacturing mindset, which will compromise your team's ability to deliver. Start differently, stay different, and finish strong. Easier said than done, certainly, but necessary if you want to look back on the project with pride instead of pain.
