Complicated org charts are silly. I don't know how much time I've wasted in meetings listening to somebody prattle on about so-and-so's “group” possibly “having an issue” with something. I can understand caution if the “issue” we're talking about is making an enemy who can get you fired, but that's not usually what's at stake. What's usually going on is managers trying to avoid potentially uncomfortable turf battles. A heart attack is an issue. A turf battle is just embarrassing and unproductive. We have to get past the idea that organization matters all that much. Organizing is more important. This is what every single manager can facilitate without dictating anything.
