Purpose

Systems thinking says managers should be like puppet masters. That implies a degree of control managers can't have, whether they're in the middle or at the top. But people in the organization probably aren't growing software right now, so they have to change their thinking and behavior. Managers have to contribute the seed of an initial, general purpose for people to grow software. The key here is the word general.

Suppose you founded a company. What's the company in business for? If you're the only founder, the company is in business for your reasons.
