Chapter 11. Losing Control

You might remember the old 7-UP® commercials. They used to claim the soft drink was “Crisp and clean—no caffeine.” The pitchman would follow that up with “Never had it, never will.”

That's how managers at all levels have to start thinking about control when it comes to software development. Our outdated notion of control is the primary reason software projects fail with alarming regularity. Unless we change our thinking, and our behavior, we should prepare ourselves for more of the same.
