Growing Just Enough

When the team starts growing the software as the project gets underway, the same focus on just enough has to be there. The relationship among developers and non-developers doesn't have to be adversarial, though. When people ask for features, software developers need to avoid resisting first and instead ask some probing questions, such as

  • What is this feature really about? Are we assuming this person is asking for something he isn't?

  • Why is this person asking for the feature? What is the business need for it?

  • Is the “new” feature much like another feature somebody already asked for, and the team just forgot?

Once the software developers have answered those questions, they'll have a better understanding of what the requestor needs, ...
