Right Now

Growing software happens right now, not three months ahead of time when managers plan. Right now is the only time horizon that allows people to predict anything. Trying to see clearly beyond that is folly.

If right now is the only time horizon that lets people predict anything, it's also the only time horizon that lets the team figure out what software they need. I can figure out how much software I need (and what it looks like) for the next small bit of work. If I try to figure out what I'll need in a month, I'm guessing.
