Self-Organization

Somebody putting money on the line probably dictates that the team should make software (as opposed to ice sculptures). Nobody should dictate how the software gets made. Ultimately, no manager or leader should tell the team, “You will develop software according to these steps, with these deliverables, using these techniques.” There might be an intermediate step that looks like this in order to get people in the organization out of their rut, but it has to go away.
