Most Americans hate their jobs, including, I suppose, a good number of software development managers. I believe the primary reason is that managers are subjected to unrealistic expectations, both from their bosses and from themselves. Managers are regularly driven to make promises they and their teams can't keep. That's completely unrealistic, but managers often go along because they see no alternative. They're certainly never taught one. Until now.
