9.8. SUMMARY

Conflict within individuals, in the form of role conflict or role ambiguity, is widespread. Individuals who understand this can do something to manage it better. Conflict between individuals is also common, and developing superordinate goals is very helpful in reducing it. Conflict between groups is commonplace. There are a number of ways of reducing conflict, including taking a win–win orientation, emphasizing problem-solving and creativity, finding superordinate goals, and developing a system of norms and laboratory ethics that will reduce it.
