CORE COMPETENCIES FOR PRODUCT MANAGERS

As I indicated before, there is no shortage of product manager job descriptions. They all describe the position from unique angles, based on how the role is perceived or utilized or who is defining it. When job definitions and descriptions are being outlined, this variation can be minimized through the consistent application of a common set of core competencies and complementary enablers, as shown in Figure 5.1. You can also minimize variation by specifying the degree to which any supporting work activity is carried out or specifying the frequency of usage.
