I want to recap some of the types of structures that companies utilize. Some companies have organized into business functions (Marketing, Sales, and so on). Some have organized according to their product lines (including brands or categories). Some have established geographic boundaries, and some have aligned to focus on specific customers or segments. Others have organized using some type of hybrid (function/product) model. In my research for this book, the following statistics emerged:
29 percent of firms reported that they organized functionally.
27 percent by product lines.
