35.3. Creating a New Database

When MySQL is first installed, a database called mysql is created that contains authentication and access control related tables. If you want to store your own data, it is best to create your own database to which to add tables instead of messing with the mysql database.

To do this, follow these steps:

1.
On the module's main page, click on the Create a new database link above or below the table of existing database icons. This will take you to a form for entering the new database's details.
2.
Enter a name for the new database into the Database name field. Names should contain only letters and numbers, and no spaces.
