13.7. Summary

The log files on a UNIX system contain a wealth of useful information, such as the details of email received, attempted and successful logins by users, hardware error reports from the kernel, and much more. This chapter explains how to configure the files and other destinations that are used for various types of messages, and how to view those files though Webmin. An important part of system administration is keeping a look out for log messages indicating serious errors or potential security violations.
