• Seventeen interviews with nonprofit board presidents who had led their organization through the transition of their CEO.

• Twenty interviews with CEOs who had experienced two or more transitions during their career, as well as two or more transitions of board presidents.

• Thirty-three interviews with leaders of Jewish day schools who had experienced transitions.

• Seven interviews with management consultants who had worked with nonprofits during transitions.

• Three focus groups about the transition process, with a total of twenty nonprofit CEOs.
