Introduction

The human resource management (HRM) environment of the Fiji islands has changed a lot since its independence in the 1970s and has undergone rapid changes in the recent decade. Both endogenous and exogenous environmental factors are closely knitted to the dynamism in the HRM environment. In Fiji, personnel management is practised by micro and small businesses, HRM practices are adopted by medium enterprises and strategic human resource management (SHRM) practices are practised in large organisations (Naidu, 2011b).
