Chapter 4

Managing Higher-Order Thinking Skills

Abstract

This chapter examines the use of higher-order thinking skills in programs for library users as all employees need to acquire and use higher-order thinking skills to plan and carry out programs and services. There is a link between information literacy and higher-order thinking skills that librarians would weigh in on development of these competencies. However, academic libraries in particular are involved in teaching students to use higher-order thinking skills as the road to lifelong learning. Different levels of higher-order thinking skills are presented and discussed.
