In the last chapter, we introduced the general challenges associated with collaborative technologies and reviewed telephone-based tools. In this chapter we review the technologies we believe made virtual teams possible: Internet-based tools such as e-mail, Web conferencing, and social networking. These technologies are particularly susceptible to proliferation and abuse, and we can’t blame virtual team members if they sometimes feel they are serving the collaboration tools instead of feeling that the tools serve them.
