The best book you never need to read is called Control your Destiny or Someone Else Will, written by legendary General Electric CEO Jack Welch. The reason you do not need to read it is that the title is the message: take control or someone else will.

Just because you have been made a manager, it does not mean you are in control. Never confuse position and power. Even Prime Ministers are not always in control: John Major was often accused of being in office, but not in power.
