Managing attrition

Given that attrition will happen sooner or later, every manager is expected to be able to 'manage attrition'. This means, every manager should be able to reduce attrition as much as possible and ensure business goes on as usual, even when the team does face attrition. Here are some ways to manage attrition.

Expect it: anybody can leave

As a manager, you should expect that anyone can leave. Here are some of the cases I have heard:

  • Employee who joined two weeks ago can leave
  • Employee who has been around for 1,2,3,....n years can leave
  • Employee who just recently got a promotion can leave
  • Employee who just recently got a big salary hike can leave
  • Employee who was given a lot of support by the organization in times of their personal difficulties ...
