In any organization, there are people who think they can request “extra” work from developers, testers, writers, whomever. “Can you please do this as a favor to me?” is one of their favorite lines. Too often, the technical staff say yes, because they think they’re doing something good for the organization.
The problem is that people who circumvent a product backlog also circumvent the project portfolio planning. Defend the portfolio from their attacks.
