Preface

The idea of writing a book about strategy as part of the celebrations to mark OC&C’s 25th birthday in 2012 was one that I immediately rejected once it became clear to me that I would be the one who would be burdened with this rather daunting task.

After a few weeks’ thought, however, I reconsidered on two conditions. The first one related to the pragmatic observation that our clients (Chief Executive Officers, divisional managers, etc.) are intensely time poor and do not want to (and probably would not even attempt to) read through 500 pages of OC&C’s musings on the subject of strategy.
