Glossary

The following terms are used in the text. I have tried to supply simple definitions to make the terms understandable. Although they would be more precise, I have avoided definitions from management or statistical texts.

Accounting profits Difference between total revenue and the cost of producing the goods and services.

Activity Major unit of work to be completed. An activity has a precise starting and ending date, includes a set of tasks, consumes resources, and results in generation of work products [Reifer, 1997a].

Applications software Software that provides a set of services or solves some type of user problem [Reifer, 1997b].
