What Is a Plotter?

A plotter (Figure 5-1) is a machine that uses a pen or other art tool to draw a line image on paper or other physical objects by following a program or responding to real-time input.

What It Does

Because a pen plotter draws lines instead of printing dots like most modern printers, it can create a more exact copy of the image it is trying to reproduce.
