Chapter Nine. A Bird's Eye View

Jim's Story

Jim's downtown office overlooked the city. Arriving early each day, he looked out on a sea of traffic. Most mornings, he marveled at the paradox beneath him: traffic congestion thick on one city street, with nearly vacant conditions just a block or two away.

Sitting just a few feet from a quicker route, the drivers below could see only congestion. Lacking Jim's bird's eye view, they sat and waited in the traffic jam rather than improving their situations.

Some days the situation made him smile with a wry grin: If only they knew what I know. Other days, it frustrated him, and he wanted to tell them. But he had the perspective, and they had the problem, and there was no way to bring the two together. ...
