What is the place of courage in taking forward difficult decisions? Lewis Carroll included these wonderful words in 'Through the Looking Glass', 'I am brave generally', he went on in a low voice, 'only today I happen to have a headache!'.

Does courage enable us to do good things well or does it mean we make ill judged decisions in a blinkered and insensitive way? Courage does not come from a bloated sense of our own importance or a quick shot of whisky. True courage is something much more deep seated and is about:

  • being comfortable with our own values;

  • addressing our fears;

  • being willing to be bold when we feel strongly about an issue;

  • knowing what happens if we are courageous and willing to take bold steps;

  • recognising and enjoying ...
