There are techniques and equipment to help you create period hairstyles. Researching the period is necessary and fun. There are books, libraries and museums to help.

The style may be created using the artist’s own hair or with wigs. Using the artist’s hair eliminates the problems of disguising hair lace, but natural hair is fine and silky and sometimes difficult to secure.
