Television and film production require many skills in many different departments, but it is necessary for all personnel to share knowledge of general production-making. Various departments have to work very closely together – cameras and sound, for instance, as it is necessary for them to negotiate moves together to prevent sound booms being in shot. Make-up, hair and costume naturally have to work closely, but they also need to understand lighting and can often enlist the help of the lighting director or camera operator. It is the knowledge and understanding of the various requirements and needs of each department that will create a helpful and professional production team.
