11 Start with a big rock in the pond

Making change tangible and impactful early on creates positive ripples for the rest of your change. The analogy I like to use is that the organisation is like a still pond. Flat and serene. You are standing looking at the organisation and understanding how you are going to make change happen.

Early in your change, you should think about how you can find a large rock – one large enough so that you can handle it and throw it – and lob it as far as you can into the middle of the pond. Two things happen when you do this. First there is a large splash, and everyone looks at the splash, but that lasts a few seconds at the most.
