Section 3. Selecting a Main Document Type

You start a mail merge by selecting the type of main document. To do this, click the Start Mail Merge button on the Mailings tab and select a type from the menu (see Figure 1.4).

As listed earlier, there are several main document types to choose from. The type you select changes the page setup options and view that Word uses for the main document:

  • Letters—Regular 8.5"x11" page size (or whatever the standard paper size in your region), Print Layout view
  • E-mail Messages—Regular 8.5"x11" page size, Web Layout view
  • Envelopes—Opens an Envelope Options dialog box ...
