One great challenge for Web page design is that you have to design pages that work in different-size environments. They might be viewed on a large monitor displaying 1300 pixels or more in width or on a small handheld mobile device! Furthermore, different monitors and browsing environments display different resolutions. A 72-pixel–wide image might be 1 inch wide on one screen and 7/8 inch wide on another. That eighth of an inch can be enough to ruin the alignment of a column or distort the display of a page.
