S
Scrapbook

A Mac OS 9 and earlier built-in application for storing often-used graphics, sounds, and movies.

screensaver

An application that displays images, animation, or other information when the computer has been idle for a specified amount of time. Screensavers were created to prevent pixel burn-in, which afflicted older monitors. They changed the image so one wouldn't get permanently etched into the screen. This is no longer a danger, but the name and the application have remained.

scroll bar

The bar on the side or bottom of a window that controls what part of a document is displayed.

SCSI

Small Computer System Interface, a parallel interface standard for connecting peripherals. Pronounced “skuzzy.”
