Software designed to run on a particular microprocessor. Apple has designed Mac OS X to run specifically on PowerPC G3 and G4 processors, and Mac OS X's Mail application is designed to run specifically on Mac OS X: Both are native software for the PowerPC G3 and G4 processors. Through emulation software, an application designed to run on one processor can be tricked into thinking it is running on another one.
