hard disk

A magnetic storage medium for computer data. Also called a hard drive. The word hard is used to differentiate it from floppy disks. In common usage, a hard disk is the big disk inside your Mac.

Hierarchical File System

Usually referred to as HFS, this was the standard file format for the Macintosh, which Apple now officially calls the Mac OS X Standard Format. HFS+ is the standard for Mac OS 8 and 9 and X, and Apple calls it Mac OS Extended Format.
