The PowerBook G3
The release of the original PowerBook G3 in 1997 changed everything and opened a new chapter in mobile computing for Apple. Building on the successes of previous “world's fastest” notebooks, the first PowerBook G3 introduced a new level of price and performance in a portable that even the most vehement PowerBook detractors could not ignore. Finally, true desktop power had migrated to the laptop.
PowerBooks were long the mainstay of senior creatives and executives immune from corporate budget limitations. In addition to offering greater speeds, this generation of PowerBooks—the G3s—cost significantly less than its predecessors. At last, Apple's coveted portables were within reach of consumer-level buyers.
