Back in 1984, when the Macintosh first hit the scene, there was nothing else like it. Its easy-to-understand system of folders, files, and menus meant you didn't have to be a rocket scientist to accomplish amazing things with a Mac. But that was nearly two decades ago, and the Macintosh interface has caught on with nearly every computer and operating-system maker out there. Now almost every computer sold—whether it's running Windows, Unix, or the now departed BeOS—has its own graphical user interface with files, folders, and menus. When you can't beat 'em, join 'em.
