Abstract
This chapter focuses on commercial aspects of machine-to-machine (M2M) solutions. We outline a history of M2M, including discussion of the near-term future of M2M and consideration of how our “connected” future will emerge. We draw from Machina Research's published forecasts for M2M connectivity, including discussion of the total opportunity worldwide, the market sectors that drive growth, and key applications in the M2M space. We outline the benefits of M2M and associated business models.
