Abstract
This chapter discusses power consumption and how to reduce it for LTE user equipment from the point of view of radio access network protocols. Typical use cases are discussed and the relevant LTE procedures that have the greatest effect on power consumption are described. The chapter also presents an example of a power consumption model, which can be used to compare power consumption savings using different lengths of DRX cycles and with different procedure optimizations.
