Appendix H. GENERAL MIDI DRUM KEY MAP

When you use the keyboard to play a musical instrument, each key represents a different note of the same instrument. But drum Software Instruments assign a different instrument to each note.

The map shown in Figure H.1 is the General MIDI drum map guideline; different drum kits may map slightly different instruments to a key. For example, one drum kit might have a handclap mapped D#1 (the standard), but another kit might have a snare roll mapped to D#1. Overall, though, drum kits for the most part conform to this map.
