iCal Server and Notifications

iCal Server works with Lion Server's push notification, which lets users (including iPhone and iPad users) instantly know about calendar changes that other users make. Notification pushes out just what's changed to clients that have subscribed to the update system (and that have been authenticated to receive updates). The server contacts clients only when new data is available.

Lion Server also provides e-mail notification of invitations to users who don't have iCal-compatible client software — or even to users who don't have calendar accounts. And with the ability to delegate calendars, users with web browsers can access iCal Server's calendar on any computer.

With, iCal Server, multiple users can update an existing event. Event attendees can add private comments to events that only they and the event organizer can see. Invitations are processed by the calendar server, freeing up the client's resources.
