Changing Ethernet Addressing

image After your initial setup, you may need to change the IP addresses of your Ethernet port(s) or change the addressing scheme from automatic (DHCP) to manual (static). You can do this in System Preferences:

  1. Open System Preferences from the Dock or the Apple menu.
  2. Click the Network icon.

The Network window appears. On the left, you see a list of network ports, including AirPort.

You can also Control-click (right-click) the System Preferences icon in the Dock and select Network from the contextual menu.

  3. Click the Ethernet port you want to configure.
  4. Click the Configure pop-up menu and choose DHCP, Manual, or other type of addressing you'll use.
  5. Type the IP addressing and domain name information in the appropriate fields.
  6. Click Apply.

After you change an IP address, you may have to update other settings, such as DNS.
